From the Moor
to the Sea

A private Cornish wild-water adventure.

Cornwall doesn’t close for winter. Neither do we.

Discover the quieter side of Cornwall, from the granite moors to the hidden world beneath the Atlantic.

A day that follows
the landscape.

Winter changes Cornwall. The beaches empty, the moors take on a different character and the coastline feels a world away from the summer crowds.

This private adventure begins in the still waters of Bodmin Moor before travelling to a sheltered stretch of coast to explore the underwater world.

It’s not a formal diving course or an endurance challenge. It’s a chance to experience Cornwall above and below the surface when the crowds have gone and the air is crisp.

01 — THE MOOR

Begin at Delphy Pool, a flooded granite quarry on Bodmin Moor. Coffee, introductions and the option of a brief, supervised cold-water dip before warming up.

02 — THE JOURNEY

Travel across Cornwall to a sheltered cove chosen for the day’s conditions. Quiet lanes, winter landscapes and a short walk towards the Atlantic.

03 — THE SEA

Explore rocky reefs, submerged gullies and marine life beneath the winter surface, at a pace that suits you.

YOUR GUIDE

Explore Cornwall
with Ian Donald.

I’ve spent more than 15 years teaching freediving and introducing people to the underwater world. I’m the founder of FreediveUK and author of Underwater Foraging: Freediving for Food.

But this day isn’t about working towards a qualification. It’s about sharing some of the places and experiences that I have been so lucky to call ‘home’ for so many years.

A little more about the day

We normally meet at Delphy Pool around 10am and finish late afternoon. The optional freshwater dip is brief and supervised, followed by time to shower, dry off and warm up before travelling to the coast. Comfortable swimming ability and appropriate health screening are required. The coastal destination and water activities depend on weather, visibility, safety and your experience. If suitable conditions aren’t available, we’ll discuss rearranging the adventure.

Winter dates available — and year-round by arrangement.
