We offer a couple of routes in to freediving for the novice, certification courses and non certification courses.
The AIDA 1-2* course is our most popular course by far. It combines the 1st 2 levels of the AIDA educational ladder in a fun 2 day course. Some people ask ‘Why do I need to do a certification in freediving?’. It is less about the certification card and more about what it represents. It shows to the world and future freediving buddies that you have all the basic skills to be a safe freediver and to what level you can dive. You can also use it to access some dive sites that may otherwise be off-limits. Read more…
Our recreational freediver course will give you all the same info as the AIDA 1-2* course, but without the worry of having to complete any performance requirements or any specific depth. This works well for groups and team building, or for those who are a little less confident in their abilities in the water. You don’t get a certification card with this course and we may not take you to a deep dive site, but you will come away from the course with a new found skill. Read more…
Our discover freediving course is a half day course, run mostly during the winter months. Its a pool course and concentrates purely on the breath-hold side of things. It is designed to open your mind to the cornerstone skill of freediving in a taster session that in many cases leads to the desire to discover more! Read more…
You will need plenty of time to complete the courses, don’t expect to rush through them in a summer, we would rather you come out the end as a skilled and confident freediver.
It takes most people a couple of seasons to really nail the 4* skills if they have never freedived before.
Talk to us about what you want to achieve and we will set up a plan just for you.
First of all… well done! Its not going to be an easy journey, but you will never regret it once you get to the end.
The first step doesn’t involve us. That’s right, its all down to you. Get yourself a mask and snorkel and go to a sheltered beach, walk in to the water and get used to breathing through a snorkel whilst looking at the underwater world around you. Even a deep rockpool will do.
The next step needs to be you swimming with a mask and snorkel, so start without fins and just using breast stroke in still and safe water. This can be a swimming pool but it would be great if it was the sea.
Once you are confident using fins and a mask and snorkel then guess what? Its back to us!
Come and try out the AIDA level 1 course, its zero pressure and loads of fun.
This is an easy one. We have several courses that are made just for you!
We run a one day Discover spearfishing course for those with a little less time on their hands. This course will take you through all the basics, equipment, safety and technique. It will cover some of the breath-hold skills but some people find that they want a bit more time to practice that aspect…. so….
The 2 day spearfishing course covers the diving and breath-hold aspects of spearfishing in more detail. It gives the student more time to practice the skills whilst under expert tuition. This course is great for both the total beginner and the more advanced spearo.
If you don’t want to use a gun at all, that’s cool, you can come on the marine foraging course. In this you will learn about the seaweeds, crustaceans, molluscs and shoreline plants that you can collect with just your hands.
Freedive UK will be operating private one to one sessions in June and full courses from July,
Course numbers will be limited to 4 students and all social distancing and hygiene measures will be adhered to in non emergency circumstances.
Bookings are being taken and we will now be allowing course date changes if available up until 1 week before the course start in the case of a change of government policy or guidelines.
Please be sure that if you need accommodation to attend that this is secure, as we cannot refund due to a change in your accommodation choices.
Due to the restriction surrounding social distancing some elements of the advertised courses may differ, such as boat use. Please also note that until guidelines change in regards to travel in vehicles outside of your family unit or bubble you will need to transport yourself to and from dive sites.
Our standard terms and conditions apply to refunds and cancellations.
We are looking forward to diving with you
